Buyer Critiques
I have been applying this for a couple of months and it really is time consuming to get the grain through it. You have to start at a low setting and keep moving it through till it really is fine sufficient for baking. I feel it's difficult to clean up but my main concern is that it appears to be a huge strain on the unit itself and that issues me. I could have purchased a totally free standing grain mill for a further 80-100 dollars but to replace my mixer is as you know alot alot more so...I'm on the fence about if or not this was a decent puchase. On the positive, it does perform and the bread is incredibly tasty.
Update 5/12/11-I have had some problems with my kitchen aid mixer given that working with the grain mill. It's slowing down and making strange noises. My sister in law named kitchen aid considering when she purchased and employed the grain mill it broke her mixer. This grain mill according to kitchen aid is not recommended for use with a machine that is not at least 500watt and in the skilled series. I am fairly upset that we had to call to get that knowledge. I've looked and looked everywhere internet and in the manuals and I can't discover it. It seems quite shady to keep that information to themselves.
I've applied this mill for a year now. I quite possibly grind when or twice a week. It's better to use flour while fresh, so grind much less flour, additional regularly. I really like this mill for the following causes:
-Effortless to attach, use, clean, and put away.
-Does not take considerably storage room.
-Not insanely loud (it is loud.. but not ear piercing loud like other stand-alone mills I've heard).
-Doesn't heat the flour as you mill it.
Drawbacks to this grain mill are connected to your intended use.
-There is a size limit to the hopper (I do not grind enough at a time to have this bother me).
-You can only grind so considerably grain before you have to let the motor cool (again, I do not grind enough at a time to worry about this).
-On the finest setting, the grain is not as fine as a $200 plus mill, however, this mill didn't price $200 plus.
I normally begin milling on the finest setting, and then run all of that flour back by way of on the finest setting. Twice through tends to make a noticeable difference, three occasions is unnecessary.
