Consumer Evaluations

There have been some complaints that these tongs are slippery with some foods, and yes this is correct. When I attempted to handle a piece of raw steak, it was really slippery, and even when cooked, it was still a little slippery. So for wet or raw meat like this, you would likely be superior employing a more standard pair of nylon or steel tipped tongs. For fish filets, those are quite delicate, and I would suggest working with a fish spatula or turner instead of any sort of tongs to stay clear of damage to the food. The scalloped edges of some tongs, particular steel tipped tongs can cut or rip the food.
Even so, now let me highlight a sample of jobs where these tongs perform fine or excel at:
- Salmon burger patty (cooking on the grill from frozen, typically would use a turner for this, but just wanted to test out the tongs)
- Tiny corn tortillas (toasting on the griddle)
- Cooked ground beef (for portioning onto tortillas above for tacos - other loose items like fried onions would be fine too)
- Bratwurst sausages
- Spring rolls
- Gyoza dumplings
- Toasted sub sandwich
- Grilled veggies
Lastly there is also a class of jobs that nylon and steel tongs Can not touch exactly where these tongs certainly shine, and that is manipulation of food containers, i.e. a hot cooking vessel that you can grip by the sides, or the lip/rim. For example, handling ramekins cooking in a hot water bath...these tongs grips them super securely, exactly where as non-silicone tongs have no opportunity acquiring a grip. As a test, I gripped a heavy glass beer mug WITH a full pint of liquid inside utilizing these tongs, and at no point did it really feel like it was going to slip.
A couple other positives:
1) The points are soft and will not damage food, so they are good for say gently handling the spring rolls, gyozas or other appetizers (e.g. pastries, bacon-wrapped scallops)
2) The silicone is more heat-resistant than nylon (each supplies protected for non-stick), so you don't have to be concerned about the strategies acquiring slightly melted by a hot pan or grill than can happen with nylon. They are also wonderful for manipulating both food and pans in the toaster oven.
The tongs are 10" extended, which is a pretty fine size, in that it is extended sufficient to preserve a safe distance from heat, but tiny sufficient to produce fine control compared to 12" tongs. They open six.5" wide, which is comparable to the OXO fantastic grips 12" tongs that I have. Created of quality stainless steel, and pretty well constructed, I don't anticipate they will break down anytime soon, but I'd probably advocate not putting them in the dishwasher as that harsh environment can wear out the spring/moving parts. Wiping down the silicone recommendations by hand-wash is quite uncomplicated. They are so beneficial that I have hung them on a hook on the wall, so they are accessible at all times, which is high praise due to the fact I have a terrific number of high top quality kitchen gadgets that I often use, but that I don't feel compelled to leave out (knives/little kitchen appliances not counted). Previously to obtaining these, I already had three pairs of OXO fine grips tongs (numerous sizes and nylon/steel strategies), which I will continue to use, but I have found these new tongs invaluable and will now cover a beneficial share of duties.

I chose these tongs given that they did not have "teeth". I wanted them additional for serving than for handling uncooked meat and poultry. I have other tongs for that objective. These tongs are nicely-shaped for choosing up a warm croissant or a cold slice of roast beef. I like the "soft grip" that it supplies without leaving teeth marks. It is also handy for "digging" into a sizeable container of chips or cookies, keeping hands out of the container. Great and thoughtful like, with no leaving a few germs behind for the subsequent snack-starved hungry individual.
