I posted this assessment over ten years ago...Yikes. But, I stand corrected. Technically the shield does not remain in location by gravity alone. If you have the right and left sections correctly assembled, there is a snug fit with the best of the bowl. Nonetheless, this is only that a snug fit and gravity keeping this shield in spot. Heavy batter or a fuller bowl can comparatively simply lift this shield up. I get the shield largely keeps in just added flour which has a tendency to fly up.
